The 2020 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Shaping Peace Together.” Celebrate the day by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope in the face of the pandemic. Stand together with the UN against attempts to use the virus to promote discrimination or hatred. Join us so that we can shape peace together.
Every year since 1981 the United Nations General Assembly declares a day of peace for strengthening of the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. It was decided in 2001 that September 21 should be observed as a day of ceasefire and non-violence.
For the last 5 years the Peace and Justice Network of Montgomery County, Inc. has sponsored a Children’s Art Project for the International Day of Peace.
This year, because of the pandemic, it was not possible to get art from the children. The churches, community centers, YMCAs, and other groups we have reached out to did not have access to groups of children in order to have them make art.
Instead, for this year, we are presenting this online display featuring some of the art from past years along with a very special piece from Kate Rhoad at Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church in collaboration with some of the 2 to 5-year-olds she was able to contact.
