A Memorial Candlelight Vigil
For
The 5th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq
6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m.
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
At the Lake Woodlands Drive Bridge
As of February 13, 2008 there were 3,959 US soldiers killed in Iraq. 29,133 were seriously wounded. There were 307 non US troops killed. 126 Journalists were killed. 546 non-Iraqi contractors and civilian workers were killed. 7,875 Iraqi Police and soldiers were killed. It is estimated that between 100,000 and 600,000 Iraqi civilians were killed.
US Money for this war totals close to $800,000,000 thus far.
In addition to the deaths, there have been countless brain and spinal cord injuries and countless, amputees, facial disfigurements, and numerous psychological injuries.
Clearly, there is much to grieve and many sacrifices to honor and remember.
This silent vigil is to remember all of those who have been harmed and their families.
The only requirement for participating in the vigil is to have a desire for peace and a concern for those who have been harmed by war. The only signs we use simply say, “Peace.” T – shirts and signs that say anything more than, “peace” are contrary to our nonpartisan mission.
Formed in the spring of 2006, The Peace and Justice Network of Montgomery County, Inc. is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of individuals committed to working for peace, and economic and social justice. We seek to educate for, advocate for, and cultivate a culture of peace, equality, and compassion in our community, our country, and our world.
